Casting: Murder in Play
Lots of good parts to go for in this murderous play within a play.
The November HIADS Play is “Murder in Play” by Simon Brett, directed by Alan Hoad running from Saturday 2nd November to Saturday 9th November.
The Reading will be on Monday 12th August at 7.30pm
And the casting is on Monday 19th August
Boris Smolensky’s budget repertory production of “Murder at Priorswell Manor” is looking decidedly shaky. The cast are more interested in their egos than the play and life imitate art when there is a murder on stage. Simon Brett hilarious text ruthlessly satirizes the politics of the inept company and the numerous red herrings and keeps the audience guessing until the final moments of the play.”This is a play within a play and I intend that it will be just as written. The main play is 1990’s and the inner play is 1930’s. There is a rehearsal going on and the HIADS audience is eavesdropping on it. Boris the Director will often be off the stage at the front directing and will go up to the box to change the lighting from workers to stage setting etc. and others will also invade the auditorium from time to time.
The cast is made up of five women and three men:
Renee Savage – A classically trained actress in her-lets be generous-late forties! She is the wife of the Director. Plays Lady Dorothy Cholmondley.
Boris Smolensky - The Director. A bit of a poseur.
Tim Fermor- A self obsessed actor. Middle aged. Plays Major Rodney Pirbright.
Ginette Vincent- Pretty, youngish and brainless. Plays daughter Virginia Cholmondley.
Christa d’Amato-ex television soap actress. 50+. Plays Mrs Puttock, cook/housekeeper.
Sophie Lawton- intelligent and attractive. Plays Triggs a housmaid
Harrison Bracewell-Actor of the old school. 60+. Plays Mr Papadoupolos, the murder victim.
Pat- Boris’s regular Stage Manager-like every stage manager you have ever known.
